Three names. One dude.

Social media editor. Graduate student. Bartender. Tired.

My new deskmates.

At least when it comes to graduate school work. After years lamenting the closing of the coffee shop down the street from my house, I'm trying to spend a few hours after work at Amici Espresso downtown to study.

My favorite part? The signs promoting their Twitter, Facebook and MySpace pages. Companies that incorporate these into their traditional marketing messages make me happy.

My Persona: Illegal social medical sports?

Watching this generate was a lot of fun, although I'm not sure how some of these words sneaked in there. I'm hoping it was a mix of tweeting breaking news for The Des Moines Register and the sentence "I know absolutely nothing about sports."

The idea: This shows you how the Internet sees you. It's part of the Metropath(ologies) exhibit, currently on display at the MIT Museum by the Sociable Media Group from the MIT Media Lab.

You can create your own here.

Creating my card.ly

I created a card.ly account today to put all the social media communities I work with (almost) in one spot. It's a mix of my own accounts as well as the products I work on for The Des Moines Register. Here's my card.

Have you set up a card.ly page?

Reading: The Scoop: Looking for your comments on comments. Be nice!

I'm taking a more active role in improving the community conversation on DesMoinesRegister.com's story comments, and this blog from the Sacrmento Bee caught my eye. It's a hard problem to get a handle on -- there is worthy discussion to be had, but keeping anonymous comments in check is a very big task.

Juice's Senior Photo Contest

You can't ask for a better senior photo than that. This is Leslie Hall, a musician who can pull off the neckbrace/tiara look with ease, even in high school.

Juice's Senior Photo Contest

Why, yes, that is how great my high school hairdo was. Don't be jealous.

This is part of a contest we kicked off today to get readers to share their senior photos with us. The person with the most votes gets a mini high school reunion, complete with a Bud Light keg and bottles of Boone's Farm.

Ed Helms to Make Iowa Cool Again

Ed Helms is going to make Iowa cool again. I mean cooler. He's starring in "Cedar Rapids," which Alexander Payne (who has filmed several of his movies in Omaha) is producing.

Des Moines woman accused of throwing dog at officer | DesMoinesRegister.com

My dog is 90 lbs., so that rules out this defense should I ever need it.

Let's never have it.

If I had to make a list of products not to try, I bet a gin martini in a can would be really high on it.
